MS in Hydrogeology Engineering

Képzés célja

The aim of this programme is to train highly qualified engineers who are competent in assessing surface and subsurface water reserves, their sustainable utilisation, and related complex geological and environmental issues regarding the protection of the quantity and quality of water resources and the remediation of contaminated sites. They will be capable of solving problems related to the construction of various engineering structures (buildings, tunnels, reservoirs, earthworks, roads, surface mines, underground mines, etc.) and of carrying out and coordinating tasks related to research and development in their academic fields. This programme has been taught also in English since 2015.

Due to the various types of surface and underground contamination, an increasingly important task is meeting the demand for water in both quantity and quality. Likewise, the amount of engineering tasks requiring a geoengineering background is steadily growing. Since Hungary joined the European Union, the Water Framework Directive has set out the most important tasks regarding water resource management. One of the primary goals of experts working with water resources is to keep our surface and subsurface waters in good condition, complying with the regulations, in order to provide safe long-term supply of water for drinking and other uses.  In Hungary the growing share of renewable energy means increasing demand for geothermal energy use, making protection of groundwater supplies essential.
