The aim of the training
The aim of this programme is the training of geological and geophysical engineers who acquire the geological, geophysical and geoinformatics knowledge needed to prospect, explore, and evaluate geological structures and mineral materials, to carry out environmental geology assessments, and to investigate and determine cases of environmental contamination. Graduates are capable of planning and carrying out these tasks and developing new methods. The high-level practical skills and theoretical knowledge gained prepare students to carry out and manage research and development activities within their field of specialisation, as well to participate in academic research and continue studies in a doctoral program. This programme has been offered also in English since 2014.

Detailed description

The qualifications are likely to be useful in companies and firms, research institutes and administrative agencies that deal with the management of mineral resources and related planning and regulatory activities. The strong engineering training provided in addition to earth sciences studies will make graduates strong candidates for the job market in applied earth sciences and in institutions involved in research into technologies and their application and supervision. These include domestic and international firms working in fossil fuels and exploring for metallic and non-metallic minerals, companies developing environmental technologies, regulatory agencies in environmental or water management and local governments.
